ReplyDeleteI think that everyone has a right to healthy and nutritious food. When you eat fast food you usually feel like you have less energy but when you have healthy food you usually tend and the engery usually lasts longer than fast food
When your eat fast food you don't get all the energy that you would get with healthier food and that means that your would be less effective at your job. You can also get a lot of diseases like diabetes and other heart issues and that means that your health care will cost more then if your were eating healthy. Its is also a better idea for the companies to invest in healthier food instead of fast food because of the productivity that they can get done rather than taking a sick day.
If we start to subsidies the farmers the cost of a heather meals would be cheaper than fast food. then people that are on a low income could eat healthier and have a happier and better life and then the overall production could be bigger because some people would not be as tired and worn out when at work they would also be less stressed about their children having the healthiest meals and preventive diabetes.
When you go to mcdonalds what do your eyes go to first the salad or the big box of fries and a hamburger. They have advertised this in a way that is seems really cheap and large for what the price is but what you really get is something that can cause more damage than good. When we look at their menus we usually look at the 1$ menus and look at how cheap it is but what we are really paying for is a cheaply made meal does not have healthy things in it. When you go to the supermarket and look at the fresh produce you usually see big numbers for the low amount of food that you get. there is a down fall to fresh food tho because of the price if we were to make the healthy food cheaper we would be better at our jobs and also live longer and when we would get sick we would recover faster.

ReplyDeleteIts is a very hard decision for parents to make to either have your children have a healthy life for to have their father have a healthy life. In some cases it might be a better chance to provide the healthy food and have the father go without his medicine because the rest of the family might not get diabetes from eating all the unhealthy food but then you are putting the father at risk of having other problems without him taking his medicine

The government is thinking about the money side not the healthy side that everyone wants to be on. If the government were to make healthy food cheaper than fast food the amount of type 2 diabetes would lower a lot due to the fact that people would not always be eating food just because of the price but because it is good for them and will make them happy.

I don't think it is fair because of when they eat the fast food they tend to get into health problem and then need to pay for medical stuff and medicine and then they can't pay for the healthy food.
’We need to start to subsides the right companies and not the corn and other fast food processing companies they need to subsides the healthier companies so that the price goes down on healthier food goes down to the price of fast food and then the healthier food.
The only people that are making a profit is the fast food companies because it is very cheap to produce and sell. The people that are paying for it is the people that are buying it and the government. When someone eats fast food you think that it is just cheap but you are wrong most of the time when you eat fast food you can get a lot of problems with that come with the fast food like heart disease and diabetes and the people that are paying for that are the government.
I think that it should be a right because everyone has a right to a healthy and happy life even if they can afford to have very healthy food. The food that you eat should not be determined by the amount of income but by what your want to eat whether it is a hamburger or a salad it should be a right and its will help the country and over all help the economy and it will bring back local farming and fresh produce that will help the local farmers and will.

Making food available to those with money would be a disaster. There are more poorer people than rich people in the world, so limiting the healthy kind of food to wealthier people would cause many problems. Unfortunately, it has been happening over the years. According to the synopsis, “An unfortunate result is that income is now the most accurate predictor of obesity and Type 2 diabetes—two conditions linked to diet.” Although I think healthy food should be available to everybody, but if we were to make healthier foods cheaper, we would have to subsidize it making it just as unhealthy. A lot of fruits and vegetables are also excluded from subsidies because they are not eligible to be grown for subsidies. If they were to subsidize fruits, it still would not be enough for people from low-income families. According to the USDA,”The annual cost of such a subsidy for low-income Americans would be about $310 million for fruits and $270 million for vegetables. And most would still not meet Federal dietary recommendations. (http://www.ers.usda.gov/publications/err-economic-research-report/err70.aspx)” They are stuck in a situation between saving valuable money but getting poor nutrition, or getting healthier food but having less money.

Furthermore, making food that is essential to your body cost more is a huge detriment to society. Society nowadays purchases items that are cheaper than the rest. These cheaper items happen to be unhealthy food that cause people to have vascular, metabolic, and even more types of problems. It especially applies to people who can only afford buying cheaper items. But it’s not only people who are poor are going to get less nutrition. Processed food is designed to be cheap and appeal to the tastes buds. It is only human nature for people choose food that not only tastes good but is cheaper than a food that is healthier but costs more and does not taste as good. If people from low-income families were to buy healthier food, they would not have as much money to support their family either with insurance or education, and they would have to work much harder.
We should support people by informing people about the dangers of non nutritious food and persuade them to eat cheaper foods. By doing this, we could start events revolving around eating and staying healthy, fundraisers to go to purchasing vegetable and fruits. It is also not too expensive to grow your own plants. Homegrown produce is healthier and tastes fresher than store-bought produce because it contains less pesticides and not any of the harmful chemicals used in manufacturing produce. People can also keep harvesting the seeds from the plants they grow and not have to buy seeds, which saves more money.
I think that it is not only unhealthy food that is giving people metabolic problems, but the amount of that food that we give them. I don’t think we necessarily have to ban unhealthy food, but we have to give them smaller portion sizes. If they wanted to have more of that unhealthy food, then they would have to buy more which means that they would be spending more money. It really isn’t split up too bad. Some vegetables or fruits don’t cost as much as they normally would. But people with low income don’t have the luxuries to go buying all the produce they want either.
Whether to buy only healthy food or not solely depends on the situation. Since her dad is sick, they should still continue to buy medicine. But they don’t have to limit to buying only processed food. They could grow their own produce, and they could save up money and by their produce at stores where the prices are cheap like the 99 cents store. If they still can’t afford anything but subsidized food, then they could eat smaller portion sizes and maybe add vegetables to it to make it a bit healthier.

ReplyDeleteThe food industry has a system of subsidies that they have been using for years. It has allowed people to afford to buy more food since the Great Depression. But the problem is that they will not subsidize the healthier produce. Processed food has a huge advantage over regular, organic food. As long as you use the specific crops eligible for subsidizing, you can do do anything (safe of course) to the food you want to make it cheaper and taste better. The most successful food companies produce subsidized, processed food which makes it more widespread and abundant than most foods on the market. As long as they get your money, they don’t really care about its detriments to health. They only care whether it tastes better and is cheaper. The most successful restaurants also work that way. McDonald’s uses this process, and it is a multi-billion dollar business. They can dish out the cheapest food in huge quantities, almost like a burger factory itself. The food makes people want to buy it too because it has all of the ingredients that appeal to the human taste buds. Food has also been genetically modified, even crops. It has been a huge struggle for people who grow organic food to be able to manage their business due to processed food dominating the market.
The cheap price of processed food makes low-income families prioritize it. It has an appealing price, a great taste, and there are a huge variety of different products. However, it has came to the point where it is one of the few things they can afford without risking their money. The price of healthy food is rising, which makes it more and more unavailable to them. And because processed food has so many unhealthy factors, it has caused tons of health problems toward them. It is unfortunate for them, as some people are born into poverty and can’t do much to bring them out of it. Not having much access unhealthy doesn’t necessarily mean you are doomed for life. They could make alternative choices for staying healthy, like exercising constantly and eating small portions to get rid of those unneeded calories and fats.
